Orchestra

The ‘Orchestra’ series below are a collection of drawings made in response to Kepler’s ‘Music of the Spheres’. The drawings explore harmonic ratios and frequencies and were hand etched onto copper plates, and hand printed on an etching press, to create a limited edition of 8 intaglio prints (raised/embossed inked lines)

Printing process:

The image above shows ultramarine ink that has been ground from Lapis Lazuli powder.
Inks for my intaglio prints are hand ground from artist’s pigments and mixed with oils for the ideal consistency for hand printing.
(This coloured ink was created for my moon cycle etching)

After the inks have been ground, the engraved plates are held over a hot plate which aides the application of the ink onto the copperplate ready for printing.

The above image ia a macro shot, of one of the etched copper plates before the ink has been applied.
